13th High School of Peristeri: Participation in an Erasmus program in Italy
The mobility of 14 students and 2 accompanying teachers of our school in the city of Morbegno, northern Italy, was completed with great success during the period 05-12/04/2024. The transfer took place within the framework of the Erasmus+ program with approval code 2023-1-EL01-KA122-SCH-000129204 and was funded entirely by the European Commission with the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) as a National Agency for Greece.

The aim of this program as a whole is to raise awareness of the common cultural heritage of the two peoples through a variety of activities implemented with modern teaching methods and digital means. In particular, we focused on the decisive role played by ancient Greek civilization in the emergence and evolution of the Renaissance period.
The host institution for our school's mobility project, which lasted 7 days, was Liceo Scientifico "P.Nervi – G.Ferrari" LICEO "P. Nervi - G. Ferrari" - Morbegno (SO) (nerviferrari.edu.it) which based on national evaluations is one of the top high schools in Italy.
During
their stay in Morbegno, our students attended courses at the host institution
identifying the similarities and differences of the education systems of the
two countries. They also participated in experiential workshops, educational
visits and other activities designed to deepen and enrich their knowledge of
Italian culture, laying the foundations for long-term friendships with their
peers.

In particular, according to the learning programme developed jointly with our partners, they visited the cities of Varenna and Bellagio on Lake Como, which are two of the most important attractions of the region. There they admired treasures of Renaissance art and architecture, including Villa Melzi. In the city of Tirano, just a few kilometers from Switzerland, they were guided by their Italian classmates to the historic Madonna di Tirano Cathedral, also of Renaissance style.

A special
experience for our students, among the activities in the host institution, was
the construction, in collaboration with their Italian classmates, of the
parachute of Leonardo Da Vinci, following STEM principles. The whole action
gained a multiplier value when the two groups, during their visit to the Museum
of Natural Science and Technology "Leonardo Da Vinci" in Milan, saw
the corresponding construction as presented in the exhibits of the museum and
in the manuscripts of the great artist – inventor.

On the same day of our joint visit to Milan, we also visited the "Pinacoteca Di Brera" gallery, where we admired the works of great Renaissance artists, such as Caravaggio and Raphael. The unique experience of the cosmopolitan capital of Lombardy, Milan, was complemented by the students' visit to the Basilica "San Lorenzo di Maggiore" where Renaissance art coexists harmoniously with Byzantine hagiographies and symbols of the Christian Orthodox faith.

We could not fail to mention the fact that our students were hosted by the families of Italians, experiencing the ultimate experience of their daily lives and reaping multiple benefits through their familiarization with their customs and traditions.
It was undoubtedly a unique, international, learning experience for all participants that fully met the objectives and specifications of the Erasmus+ programme. By participating even for a while, in a different community and culture, our students broadened their horizons, experienced feelings of acceptance and empathy, and cultivated valuable skills that will be useful in both their personal and professional lives in the future.
After thanking from the bottom of our hearts those who helped us realize this dream, we would like to wish this trip to be the beginning of a course of internationalization of our school in a future full of challenges and multicultural experiences.
